Braving the Heat: Why Summer Golf in Arizona is Unbeatable

 PV SUMMER GOLF Blog

Here in the Phoenix area, the weather in February, March, & April is just about perfect. During these months, Arizona golf is at its best - temperatures are consistently in the 70’s and most days are clear, cloudless, and full of sunshine. Unfortunately, these perfect golf days don’t last forever and starting in May and continuing through September, the perfect weather gives way to the intense heat of the desert summer. While not the ideal golf environment for all, the summer golf season can offer unbeatable opportunities for golfers who are willing to brave the heat and get out on the course.

Lower Rates

While the Arizona summer brings the heat, it also brings lower rates to play some of the area’s top courses. Summer golfers often find themselves enjoying rates that are 60-70% off of in-season rates to play the same golf courses. These reduced rates allow golfers to play courses that might otherwise be out of their budget. The summer also provides golfers the opportunity to play on lot more golf on their budget as plunging rates allow for more golf for less. No matter what your goal, the summer offers some of the best golf rates in Arizona. View our low summer rates at Palm Valley.

More Available Tee Times

The Summer golf season also means less crowds out on the course. As winter visitors escape back to their summer homes and many golfers pack their clubs away during the summer months, most Arizona golf courses are wide open for play. With more tee times available, including some of the most desirable times, summer golfers can more easily play when it works with their schedule. Grab an early morning tee time and beat the beat or play 9 holes in the afternoon as the sun drops below the horizon - either way, there’s most likely an available tee time waiting for you. View our tee sheet now to view available tee times.

Summer Specials

On top of lower rates and more availability, the summer golf season also brings some incredible golf deals. At Palm Valley Golf Club, our Summer Palm Card gives golfers the ability to play at Palm Valley at preferred cardholder rates all summer long. Summer Palm cardholders also earn rewards points with each round played that can be redeemed for free golf and can play at reduced rates at other participating golf clubs throughout Arizona - all for only $39. This once a year opportunity will allow you to work on your game, save some money, and get your summer in swing.

Jumping Phil: Our Favorite Masters Moment

The Masters

The Masters, known for its vibrant yellow and green, has a rich history dating back to 1934, and has been home to some of golf’s greatest moments.  One of these great moments occurred at the 2004 Masters when Phil Mickelson made a birdie putt on the final hole to win the 68th Masters and seal his first Major tournament victory.

Perhaps most memorable in this Master's moment was Phil’s celebration as his ball found the bottom of the cup - a triumphant, spread-eagle jump with his hands held high in the air. This second within this magical moment has been immortalized as Phil’s personal brand and the silhouette of Phil’s 2004 Masters jump can now be seen used by many of Phil’s current business ventures.

For Mickelson, his win at the 2004 Masters represented a breakthrough. To that point in his career, Phil had 17 top-10 finishes in the majors and was widely considered the best player to not have won a major championship.  At the 1999 U.S. Open, Mickelson lost on the final hole in heartbreaking fashion as Payne Stewart sunk his 18ft putt to win the tournament. Between 1999 and 2003, Phil had finished second or third in majors a total of 6 times.  As his final putt at the 2004 Masters caught the lip, circled around, and went in, years of hard-work and heartbreak washed away.  Phil was, at that moment, now a majors champion and a winner of the most storied of all majors, The Masters.

Jumping Phil

As a Phil Mickelson Golf Property, we proudly wear the “Jumping Phil”.  Seen around our facility and on apparel available for purchase in our golf shop, the silhouette of Phil's jump reminds of this historic moment in golf and begs us to play the game with a similar excitement.  As we witness The Masters this week, we watch in anticipation of yet-another Masters moment - especially one that involves a certain left-handed, 3-time Masters champion.
